Winter has crept on us with all the chills! I’m located in Northern Virginia where coats in the winter are a requirement. I came across a color contrast faux fur coat in an old New York & Co catalog and fell in love. I go online and hunt for this coat and of course it’s sold out or not available (it’s that dope). And that’s when I got the bright idea to just make it yourself... but where do I start?
Just so happens Joann’s had a sale on all their faux fur! YES! It’s meant to be. For this look I used Navy blue, Silver fox, and White faux fur. I’ll share a link for fabric below. I choose pattern M7257 view C and view D. To create the contrast I cut out pattern pieces and divided the measurements of each piece by 3 and add 5/8 (seam allowance) to each cut pattern piece. I do suggest that you cut out your lining prior to cutting the pattern pieces into 3’s. I made this mistake and had to tape them back together before cutting out my lining. Remember to cut the faux fur from the backing (not the front) and keep your vacuum handy. Once I had the 3 contrast colors cut out for each pattern piece, it’s time to put them together. Sewing the fur wasn’t as bad as I expected (my walking foot helped tremendously). I also suggest using a thicker thread, not all purpose thread. For the lining I had some blue polka dot fabric laying around and just so happen to match perfectly. I was a little confused on the construction of the sleeve for this pattern but hand sewing the sleeve lining made perfect sense once I was all done. I will definitely use this pattern in the near future and I recommend it for all level seamstress. I would love to see your recreations of this look.
